About The Author: Major-General George Frederick Leycester Marshall CIE (1843– 1934) was the son of William Marshall (a clergyman). He became a colonel in the Indian Army and was a naturalist interested in the birds and butterflies of India. Marshall described several new species of butterflies, along with Lionel de Niceville, and discovered the white-tailed iora, Whereby the Marshal is sometimes referred to as Iora. Marshal retired in November 1897 as The Butterflies of India, Burma and Ceylon Marshal Royal (late Bengal) Engineers. Marshall was made a CIE in the 1893 New Year's Honours.
